Memorial Day

Memorial Day is full of memories. I've always enjoyed getting together with family and hearing stories of my ancestors. Uncle Joe who loved riding wild horses. Grandpa telling his teacher he was late for school because of the rainstorm at his nearby house on a sunny day. Uncle Reed, the jock, getting out his knitting anytime a younger sister had a date coming over. Perry Fitzgerald scouting for Brigham Young and saving the life of Porter Rockwell. Great-grandpa Frank putting together a picnic lunch of sliced cheese, cinnamon rolls, sausage, and hard boiled eggs. Our past contains a legacy of faith, humor, and love.

At each of these yearly outings, I also get to see the love passing not only to our past, but to our future. New nieces and nephews walking around the cemetery, chasing pinwheels, watering the flowers, listening to the stories. Games at the park. Smiles and laughter. Here are some pictures from this year's Memorial Day of Bryan and Michelle's boys. I hope that the love and the memories never end.

Neriage

While Robyn was away in Nauvoo, I had the chance to spend some time at home. One afternoon, I was able to watch my dad work his magic at the potter's wheel. I documented one of these neriage pots from start to finish, taking a photo every thirty seconds (excluding drying time). Since today is his birthday, I think it's appropriate to post a video so you too can watch him transform a chunk of clay into a tall and beautiful vessel. Happy Birthday Dad.

Our Final Dancesport...

Chris's ninth... Robyn's fifth... Our last...
Yes, March 2009 marks the final U.S. National Amateur DanceSport Championships in which we compete.

However, this competition was also a special one for firsts...
Let's look at some of them...

First time competing together as hubbie and wife...

First time of amazingly crazy
spaghetti-woven, snake-laced,
wow-the-judges hair...

Everyone loved it...

First time competing the mambo...

First time winning!!!
(At least for Chris... Robyn began winning long ago... She finally brought him along...)

Here are our trophies. It appears my little trophy man was so happy that he tried to dive away. Actually, they snapped him off by the ankles a couple minutes before the awards ceremony. Oops. He had scotch tape splints when I received him. Fortunately, he was later admitted to the trophy hospital for a more permanent repair.

A "Crown Jewel" of a meal...

A week after returning from our reception and Thanksgiving in Albuquerque, Robyn and I decided to christen our fine china (Mikasa Crown Jewel Platinum. Only $99.99 a place setting, if you're looking for a gift we might enjoy...). Since we forgot to go shopping before Sunday, we rummaged through the cupboards for some fine fixin's of a meal. Here is what we came up with...

As you can see, the soft candlelight and warm Christmas decorations coupled with our fine china and tasty food created just the right touch for an elegant evening at home. Spiced cider, green salad, and beef with vegetable soup. Mmm mmm good. After finishing our scrumptious meal, the romantic atmosphere was toned down a bit as we turned back to the rest of our apartment...

Someday we'll get moved in. Someday...

Caught in the act!!! I think I was finally warming up...

Santa Fe, Are you there? Do you swear you won't forget me?

Yummilicious lunch on a heated cafe balcony with the love of my life... the luckiest.
